PORT CLINTON, Ohio, August 18, 2021 – The latest addition to African Safari Wildlife Park is bringing Guests “toe to hoof” with one of the world’s most iconic animal species.

Construction crews recently completed work on an immersive giraffe habitat located  between the Aviary Adventure and EdZOOcational Animal Program Pavilion in the Park’s Walk-Thru Safari, marking the first time giraffe have been visible in this section of the Park in its 53-year history.

“Seeing the giraffe in the Drive-Thru Safari is a highlight of every visit to the Park, but most Guests only get to see these animals for a few minutes at once,” said Park Director Kelsey Keller. “Now you can spend as much time with the giraffe as you want and develop a deeper connection with these gentle giants. It’s also a chance to take some giraff-ic selfies!”

Eighteen-year-old Randle and 16-year-old Bingwa are the habitat’s inaugural residents. The Park’s Animal Care Staff have recently started offering public feedings while the giraffe duo are out on exhibit – Guests can purchase ‘giraffe snacks’ from animal care staff at the exhibit for $5.00. Feeding the giraffe is subject to animal’s participation, as the giraffe are still in training and learning to feed from visitors.

The Walk-Thru Safari, which is included with general admission, is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Labor Day. The giraffe may not be visible in inclement weather conditions.

Giraffe are threatened by habitat loss and the bushmeat trade, and they have become locally extinct in at least four countries. The Park has contributed to several organizations working to aid giraffe in their natural range, such as Giraffe Conservation Foundation.

African Safari Wildlife Park is currently celebrating its 53rd Season of operation. The Park is scheduled to close for the 2021 Season on December 5, 2021.
