SHOW PRESENTER

DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS:  African Safari Wildlife Park is looking for upbeat and energetic people to join our Education Department as full time or part time seasonal employees. Primary responsibilities may include the following: public speaking, direct interaction with Safari guests, and main presenter in Wildlife Show.  Previous animal presentation experience and/or work with children is preferred.  College degree in education, biology, or related field required (may be substituted with relevant work experience). Must have excellent communication skills, be able to pass pre-employment screening, maintain valid driver’s license, and lift up to 50 pounds. FOOD HOST / CASHIER

 
DESCRIPTION: Handles guest sales in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner using suggestive selling techniques. Rings up sales on a cash register, handles money, and counts out correct change. Responsible for preparation of various food products according to prescribed recipes. Keeps a clean and orderly area including the preparation area, guests areas (tables, chairs, serving lines, condiment stands, etc.) and all equipment. Learns menu items, portions, accompaniments and prices. Some heavy lifting is involved (approx. 40-50 lbs.

QUALIFICATIONS: Honesty and reliability a must. Knowledge of accurate cash handling. Ability to work in groups at a hectic pace. Ability to follow instructions. Must maintain a well-groomed & professional appearance at all times. Flexibility to work various hours, work locations, and positions as business warrants.

 

 
BUILDINGS & GROUNDS/CARPENTER
DESCRIPTION: Performs manual labor as it related to the repair and maintenance of building and grounds, the repair or modification of existing exhibits, and construction of new exhibits in accordance with the instructions provided by the facilities manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Basic knowledge of construction principles and practices. Ability to follow both oral and written instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to work under adverse conditions including weather and heights. Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Preferably, background in basic carpentry, masonry, and welding.

 
 
GIFT SHOP / CASHIER

Cheerfully greets visitors and handles merchandise sales by making accurate cash transactions while operating an electronic cash register. Other duties include merchandising and maintaining a clean gift shop.

DESCRIPTION:

  • Greets all visitors with a smile and offers assistance; via in person or on the telephone.
  • Communicates clearly and in a friendly manner.
  • Insures accuracy of transaction and provides merchandise to visitor and communicates appreciation for their business.
  • Responsible for following cash handling and asset protection policies and requirements.
  • Responsible for all checklists associated with the cashier position.
  • Utilizes computer in the preparation and use of daily cash worksheet and balancing at the end of each day.
  • Fills in for other visitor services personnel as needed and directed.
  • Responsible for the cleaning and organizing of assigned areas.
  • Works as a team player to help others complete their objectives as needed.
  • Responsible for following all Zoo sanitation standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

TICKET BOOTH / CASHIER

DESCRIPTION: Assist guests entering the park. Includes accepting tickets from guests, verifying authenticity of each admission tickets, ringing purchases on a cash register, accepting coupons and payment, and distributing admission receipts to guests. Are also responsible for maintaining cleanliness and ensuring safety in assigned work locations while providing operations excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to communicate well, follow instructions, work well with money, and be patient, alert, and courteous at all times. Should have a cheerful, courteous manner with a natural smile and be mature, level-headed, and not easily flustered by large crowds. Experience on a register is helpful, but not required. Applicant must not mind being confined to a cashier booth and working alone during his/her shift. It is required that all must be able to read, comprehend and speak the English language.

 

FOOD & BEVERAGE ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR

The African Safari Wildlife Park seeks a full-time Food and Beverage Assistant Supervisor to oversee the catering operation and daily operation of its concession stand and grill. Preferred applicants will have prior experience managing quick-service food establishments and coordinating catering functions, ideally within a Zoo or amusement park. Primary responsibilities for the role include:  Assist in the daily management of Food and Beverage operation. Manage, direct and coordinate all catering events including set up/tear down of event, serving of food and beverages maintaining health department standards for serving food, and ensuring quality and consistency of food and table display. Assist in the management of food inventory, cleaning and maintenance of equipment & facilities, loss control and ordering of supplies. Ensure compliance on required health, sanitation & safety procedures Requirements for the role include: 2+ years of management experience in the food service industry.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Word and Excel.   Should be willing to work a varied schedule, including weekends, holidays and occasional special events.

SHOW PERFORMER/COSTUMED CHARACTER

The African Safari Wildlife Park seeks a full-time/seasonal Show Performer and Costumed Character.

ASSISTANT RETAIL SUPERVISOR

Full-time position requiring excellent customer service skills at the African Safari Wildlife Park located in Port Clinton, Ohio. This position deals with all aspects of the visitor experience, from retail sales and merchandising to ticket sales (individuals and groups), public relations, and customer service. The gift shop specializes in high quality nature/animal related gifts, including souvenirs and toys, as well as offering light snacks and soft drinks. Excellent English writing and computer skills required, (proficiency with Microsoft Excel/Word required), (knowledge of ticketing/retail software very helpful; we use Quickbooks). Experience with group sales at a comparable attraction helpful. Applicants should show initiative, responsibility, imagination and creativity to promote our Park. Should be willing to work a varied schedule, including weekends, holidays and occasional special events.

FOOD PREPARATION CLERK

The African Safari Wildlife Park seeks a full-time/seasonal Food Preparation Clerk to operate large kitchen equipment in a proper and safe manner. Maintain a clean and orderly work area at all times to include all kitchen equipment. Learns menu items, portions, recipes, and accompaniments and present food items in an attractive manner. Some positions require preparing large quantity food trays for various catering functions and presenting them in an attractive manner. Some lifting is involved with the various food products (approx. 15 - 20 lbs.).

Should be willing to work a varied schedule, including weekends, holidays and occasional special events.

KEEPER INTERNSHIP

African Safari Wildlife Park is offering an opportunity for education and experience for tomorrow’s workforce by offering six three-month internships to qualified applicants. Applicants must have at least the equivalent of two years completed in a college or university or be a recent college graduate, majoring in zoology, biology, fisheries and wildlife, or any other related field. Responsibilities can include but not limited to, daily exhibit maintenance and cleaning, behavioral enrichment, animal observation, public interaction and education, medical care, diet preparation, and duties related to general park operations. Interns may be asked to complete special projects and will typically be assigned to work with a keeper daily.  Applicants must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must have strong communication skills as speaking to the general public is required. Must be able to climb ladders/stairs, lift and carry 50lbs. and be agile and flexible to maneuver in and around animals, exhibits, corrals and holding areas. Applicants must be willing to work in all types of weather conditions and work long hours, including weekends and some holidays. Work weeks will be between 40 to 50 hours, depending on activities at the park. Applicants must commit to a schedule; 450 hours is required for successful completion of the internship. Proof of a tetanus vaccine within the last 5 years and a negative Tb test within the last year is required. Interns may have the opportunity to work with every animal in African Safari Wildlife Park’s collection including primates, reptiles, birds, and hoofstock. African Safari Wildlife Park’s internships are on a volunteer basis.  All Interns are provided with a monthly stipend to help cover living expenses. Interns are responsible for their own housing, transportation, and health insurance.

CART SALES HOST

DESCRIPTION: Handles guest sales in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner. Able to quickly and accurately take in large amounts of cash, handle money, and count out correct change. Responsible for selling of product

QUALIFICATIONS: Honesty and reliability a must. Knowledge of accurate cash handling. Ability to work independently without constant supervision. Ability to follow instructions.
